Is There Really Anything to Do in Dumaguete, or Do You Just Go There for Siquijor?
Dumaguete may be known as the gateway to Siquijor, but the city deserves at least two nights of its own.
Short answer: yes, there is enough to do in Dumaguete.
Just do not arrive expecting an attraction-packed beach destination. Dumaguete works better as a relaxed city break built around cafés, heritage, resort time, seaside walks, and a quick escape into the mountains of Valencia.
Dumaguete does not compete with Siquijor. Its appeal is slower: good food, old stories, sea walks, and enough breathing room to enjoy all three.
Why Dumaguete Is Suddenly More Interesting
Dumaguete officially joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Literature in 2025. UNESCO describes it as a “City of Stories,” supported by its writers, publishers, universities, and literary institutions. It is also home to the country’s oldest creative writing workshop. Getting to Dumaguete From Manila
Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific operate nonstop flights from Manila to Dumaguete Airport, with flying time usually around 1 hour and 20 to 30 minutes.
